Jim Shocky's Gold black powder substitute
As information for any muzzleloader hunters....
Do some research before purchasing Jim Shocky's "Gold" black powder substitute. He is a very credible person but doesn't make the stuff. The "FFG" powder is not comprised of two-F size particles. Rather they look like crushed rock...sharp edges...no two pieces the same size down to talcum powder type dust. You get a cloud of the dust when you pour the powder and because of particle size difference, precise amounts of powder are different from load to load. This results in different pressure. Another issue is that it reportedly creates less fouling but it is also VERY dirty to handle. It is made by Pioneer Powder which has a dubious history. DYOD. Do a google search and research it before you buy it. At $25 per pound a person needs to be happy and confident with the powder they're using. There are good to excellent reports re use of Tripple 7 and Pyrodex powder substitutes. |

Just make your own. It's easy enough.
